Starship Types
Starships take a vast set of resources to create, from raw materials to
design knowledge and testing, to skilled assembly workers and
specialized construction equipment. Their
original design and manufacture generally preclude all but governments
and major corporations. Even used, they tend to be quite expensive due
to the value of their constituent raw materials alone.
As well, the vast resources consumed in the design and construction
of starships guides manufacturers to two types of design ethos.
Ships are generally designed to be specialized and exceptionally
proficient at one particular task or else they are designed to be exceptionally
versatile so as to appeal to the widest variety of consumers with a wide
variety of needs. Generally, design and purpose caters to the needs and
pocketbooks of the end user. Frivolous designs are rare.
