Bjaki Pantheon
In the distant past,
the Bjaki developed a large and complex pantheon of
gods who they worshipped.
While none have believed in their actual existence for millennia, let alone
practicing any form of worship, the pantheon is worth note given that it
appears extensively in literature, art, and modern reference as a
characterization of Bjaki tradition and values. No
Bjaki childhood would be
complete without the telling of classic tales at bedtime.
The pantheon was also cited in tying together the
evolutionary origins of the Bjaki and
Celendriennes. While the
Celendriennes had all but dropped
reference to antiquated religious belief, enough references survived for
scientists to surmise common ancestral ties.
Chitl |
Chitl was a corrupt old man,
god of uncontrolled change and chaos. He is the god of hidden dangers and
the places intelligent beings should be too intelligent to tread. He
eventually became personified by mysterious starship disasters,
inexplicable mechanical failures, and
Ataxia. He is not death but the
mysterious forces in the universe that directly work against man for the
sake of befuddling him and setting back progress. |
Kyprios |
Kyprios was the god of the
wood and nature. He represents the fighting spirit of nature,
the competition and survival that has compassion for both predator and
prey. Kyprios represents man's oneness with nature, the overcoming of base
animal instinct yet returning to it for its beauty and simplicity and
balance. He is the sharp beam of sunlight that cuts into a shady
glade. He is the lion. He is light twin of Himavat. |
Himavat |
Himavat represents the
irresistible, uncontrollable, destructive forces of nature. He represents
the strong killing the weak and he is also the ironic twist that lets that old gazelle
kill the young lion. Himavat represents man's helplessness in the face of natural forces.
He is the
jackal and the hurricane. He is the dark twin of Kyprios. |
Lorringil |
Lorringil was the god of
trade. While he represented the baser aspects of trade, of having things
and acquiring things, his primary influence was the ability to reach
across a distance, make contact with others, and develop lasting
relationships. Lorringil is also a
proud Bjaki family name and the name
of a Spinward Confederacy
planet. |
