Railguns
These are some specific railguns of note that have
developed through the history of the galaxy.
The numbers indicate a "tech level"
corresponding to the History
section.

This series of massive railguns were
developed by Azatlath Advanced Construction in the early Archaic
times and variations of the design developed up to modern times.
Designed to facilitate planetary bombardment and do massive damage
to even large ships, they ran almost the entire length of mid-size
ships like the destroyers of the time. These guns are nano-constructed
in orbit near the ship on which they will be installed. While the
"barrel" generally appears to be a simple tube, it is
constructed of regionally doped carbon nanotubes, providing a huge positive and negative "rail" down
opposite
sides of the tube with a thin, electrically resistive insulator between.
Firing the weapon will gradually degrade its barrel due to the
incredible force, heat, and friction. While the nano-constructors
that create the gun self-destruct on its completion to protect
Azatlath design-construct software, repair nanites are left which
repair deterioration damage to the "rails". The Behemoth
series has adapted to new technologies and political need over the
years but remains similar in fundamental design. |
